It Takes All Kinds is currently on hiatus while a format change is sorted out.
You may continue to submit work, though I suggest considering submitting to Disturb The Universe Magazine instead.
The following guidelines are current as of 14 June 2024.
There is no theme, as the general theme of the publication is to share the voices of many.
Submissions are open and ongoing. To get a feel of how an issue looks/reads, check out any of the previously published issues available at archive.org.
There is no particular deadline for an issue unless noted on social media.
ALL OF THE FOLLOWING GUIDELINES MUST BE MET, WHERE APPLICABLE.
To submit:
1. Up to three poems, one short story (under 1000 words), or two pieces of flash fiction (under 500 words each). Also open to opinion pieces, slice-of-life stories, book and music reviews, and humor, as long as it is under 1000 words. All writing MUST have a title.
2. Art, comics, and photography are also accepted. The zine is half-size (8.5" by 5.5"), so images must fit that or be scalable. Images for the front and back covers MUST be sized to fit the page (8.5" by 5.5"). If you’re submitting an image for the front or back cover, please note that in your email. Images may include writing, however, do not include the name of the publication on the image you submit to the zine.
3. All poetry and story submissions MUST be in a readable font, preferably12-point Times New Roman. Stories must be single spaced with a blank line between paragraphs.
4. I prefer your work as a .doc or .docx file. However, if your work has non-standard formatting, please send it as an image, or in a .pdf file. This is the ONLY time a .pdf is acceptable.
5. Your name MUST be in the file name. This means the name of your file must have your name in it (example: YOURNAME-ITAK-SUBMISSION.docx). I will reject your work, unread, if this guideline is not met.
6. Include a short third-person bio, even if you've submitted writing in the past. If you don’t, and your work is accepted, your bio will simply be [no bio submitted]. You are welcome to include a URL or form of contact. Keep your bio under 50-65 words, not including a social media handle or URL. Bios that don't fit this guideline may be subject to editing.
7. You will receive a copy of the .pdf for the issue in which your work appears.
8. No simultaneous submissions. If your submission is accepted, it will be published. If you choose to withdraw your accepted submission for any reason, any other work that's been accepted (but not yet published) may be subject to rejection, and you will not be permitted to submit work again for one year.
9. No previously published work.
10. Email your submission to itaklitzine (at) gmail (dot) com with the subject line It Takes All Kinds submission from (your name). Turnaround time for acceptance/rejection should be within 60 days. If longer than that, feel free to inquire.
11. You are welcome to submit work to each issue. Publication in a previous issue does not guarantee publication in future issues.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Please have your work proofed and print-ready when submitting. I may fix a typo here and there; however, I have little time and no interest in editing your work.
